For many years, Michael Gaillard has been fulfilling traveling commissions for his collectors, creating bespoke pieces of art from locations of their choosing. This location choice sets the stage for Gaillard’s artistic interpretation. Clients trust Gaillard’s vision implicitly, allowing him the freedom to explore the atmospheric and compositional opportunities presented by the environment, with the understanding that the artistic process will be led by his expertise and singular perspective. Once Gaillard has selected the commissions he will undertake, and the details and terms have been tailored to meet the specific requirements of the project, he travels to the location for an intensive study period. This usually lasts at least a week and may involve multiple visits depending on the complexity of the project. During this time, Gaillard’s engagement with the location deepens, aiming to capture the essence of the place through his artistic lens.

The creative process typically starts with broad, atmospheric shots. Gaillard then moves to explore more abstract possibilities, seeking elements that, while abstract, resonate with the essence of the landscape. These phases enrich the final compositions with insights gained from deeper exploratory work. 

After creating a comprehensive portfolio on-site, Gaillard carefully selects a set of exceptional images. The collector then chooses the final pieces from that set to be produced. Each piece is made to the same high standards as Gaillard's limited-edition works, involving meticulous printing, mounting, and framing processes. Due to the demanding nature of his work and his commitment to quality, Gaillard limits himself to only two or three commissions per year. This ensures that each project receives his full attention and meets the highest standards of artistic excellence.
