    Whose Woods These Are

Progress is complicated, rarely linear, and never comes without a cost. The more popular a destinations gets, the more vulnerable it is to the consequences of that magnetism.  Much that is intended as building on what once was is often at the expense of much of what made the destination desirable in the first place. I am interested in Costa Rica as a place where, while ownership and stewardship are not always aligned, its political landscape has maintained a responsiblity to the environment and the local population in ways that many other tourist destinations, Nantucket included, have been unable to achieve. Whose Woods These Are (above) and Miles To Go Before We Sleep (below) are monumental works 63 x 202 and 63 x 245 inches, that speak to the inflection point that Costa Rica faces and serve as the foundation upon which I see all my past and future Costa Rica work resting.
